No. 10 Dalton State Stays Perfect With 94-85 Road Win Over ABAC

TIFTON, Ga. – No. 10-ranked Dalton State improved to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference play with a hard-fought 94-85 victory over abac (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon at Grissette Gym in Tifton. Dalton State used balanced scoring and a dominant presence in the paint to overcome a hot-shooting Stallions squad.

RECAP
FIRST HALF
Dalton State jumped out early behind Varun Danak's inside scoring and Ja'Ron Briggs' steady free-throw shooting, building a slim lead in a back-and-forth opening stretch. The Roadrunners led by as many as eight points midway through the half, but ABAC responded with timely three-pointers from P.J. Mathews and Tommie Hall to keep things close. Dalton State closed the half strong, converting second-chance opportunities and free throws to take a 42-39 lead into the locker room. Danak and Briggs combined for 17 first-half points, while Mathews paced ABAC with 17 before the break.

SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners asserted themselves early in the second half, opening with a 6-0 run capped by a Jamori McDougald three-pointer. Dalton State's depth and rebounding advantage began to show as Danak and Devin Geiger controlled the glass, and Qualen Pettus added key buckets in transition. ABAC continued to battle, cutting the deficit to single digits multiple times thanks to Hall's perimeter shooting and Mathews' mid-range game. However, Dalton State's inside dominance and clutch free throws down the stretch sealed the win. A late three from Briggs and a layup by Danak pushed the lead to 18 before ABAC trimmed it in the final minute.
