Late Push Not Enough As Dalton State Falls 5–2 At Tennessee Southern

PULASKI, Tenn. - Dalton State women's soccer showed fight to the final whistle, pulling one back late on a corner, but an early first-half blitz by Tennessee Southern proved decisive in a 5–2 road result at Grissom Pitch.

The Roadrunners weathered a heavy first-half surge and answered through Aoife Saunders's first-half penalty before Abbey Butte converted off a late set piece, yet Tennessee Southern's four goals in the opening 18 minutes set the tone in Thursday's SSAC contest.

FIRST HALF
Tennessee Southern struck inside three minutes when Karla Montiel curled a set-piece from 27 yards into the net at 2:31. The Firehawks doubled the lead at 7:42 as Hikaru Uchida finished a cross from Osiris Rodriguez inside the six. Just 51 seconds later, Kamilia Tayebi converted a penalty to make it 3–0, and Rodriguez added a fourth at 17:43 off a feed from Riho Masuya. Dalton State responded at 20:17 when Saunders buried a penalty to cut the deficit to 4–1 heading into halftime.

SECOND HALF
Dalton State found more of the ball after the break, generating five corners to tilt pressure forward. The Roadrunners carved multiple looks—Abigail Aman wide from distance and Saunders forcing a save—before Tennessee Southern added a fifth at 83:41 via Tayebi after a defensive misplay. Undeterred, Dalton State answered less than two minutes later: Butte dribbled through traffic to finish off a Ria Cox corner at 85:32, producing the final 5–2 scoreline.
