DALTON, Ga. –No. 18-ranked Dalton State opened the 2025–26 season in historic fashion, dismantling Oakwood (Ala.) 124–88 at Bandy Gym on Monday night. The Roadrunners not only showcased offensive firepower but also shattered the program record for points in a single game, eclipsing the previous mark of 119 with a dominant performance.
RECAP
FIRST HALF
Dalton State came out firing, racing to a 61–33 halftime lead behind precision shooting and relentless ball movement. The Roadrunners connected on 54.3% of their shots and drained nine threes in the opening frame.
Qualen Pettus and
Raylan Barrion combined for 31 points before the break, while
Kota Benson added 12. Dalton State's defense forced 11 turnovers, converting them into 17 points, and controlled the glass with a 26–13 rebounding edge.
SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners kept the pressure on after halftime, pouring in 63 more points and stretching the lead to as many as 43. Dalton State shot an incredible 63.6% in the second half and hit six more threes. Pettus finished with a game-high 26 points, Benson and Barrion combined for 16 assists, and
Santonio McDaniel provided a spark off the bench with 11 points in six minutes.
Ja'Ron Briggs anchored the paint with 13 points and nine rebounds as Dalton State cruised to a record-breaking finish.
