No. 25 Roadrunners Edged 1–0 by #12 Life (Ga.) In Defensive Battle At Dalton Stadium


DALTON, Ga. — No. 25 Dalton State men's soccer came up just short against #12 Life (Ga.), falling 1–0 on Oct. 26, 2025, at Dalton Stadium. Strong goalkeeping from Nestor Mendez and Bernardo Manzano and a late attacking surge kept the Roadrunners in it to the end, but the visitors' first-half strike proved decisive. Dalton State now sits at 8–3–5 overall and 3–3–4 in conference play, while Life moved to 13–1–2 and 9–1–0.
 
FIRST HALF
Life established early pressure, forcing a series of saves from Mendez, including stops in the 16th and 31st minutes, while also rattling the woodwork with efforts off the crossbar (14:48) and the post (17:24).

The breakthrough came at 42:44 when Life's Andrei Apostu finished from close range off an assist by Alvaro Hidalgo to put the Roadrunners behind, 1–0, just before the interval.

Dalton State generated three first-half shots, testing Life keeper Pawel Wolny early through David Saldana's on-target effort in the second minute, but couldn't find the equalizer before halftime.
 
SECOND HALF
Dalton State turned to Manzano in goal after the break, and he responded with three saves to keep the Roadrunners within striking distance, including denials in the 48th and 57th minutes.
 
The Roadrunners ramped up the attack with seven second-half shots and a pair of late corners (67:29 and 78:59). Sergej Misic fired multiple efforts, and Fabio Barbosa forced Wolny into saves in the 76th and 77th minutes before lifting another attempt over the bar in the 79th. Saldana also threatened with a wide chance at 75:04. Despite the push, Dalton State couldn't break through.

A chippy stretch saw several cautions issued, including yellows to Dalton State's Jaime Mendiola (57:00), Hugo Martinez (57:46), and Fabio Barbosa (58:20), as the match tightened down the stretch.
