Dalton State Falls 2-0 To UT Southern (Tenn.) In Home Conference Clash

DALTON, Ga. - Despite a strong defensive effort and a standout performance from goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd, the Dalton State women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to #25 UT Southern (Tenn.) on Wednesday evening at Dalton Stadium. The Lady Roadrunners move to 7-3-1 overall and 2-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference play, while the FireHawks improve to 6-3-2 and 3-1-1 in league action.

FIRST HALF
The opening 45 minutes saw UT Southern control much of the possession, out-shooting Dalton State 13-2. The FireHawks broke through in the 20th minute when Osiris Rodriguez scored off an assist from Sharaid Palmeros-Sol to give UTS a 1-0 lead. Dalton State's best chance of the half came in the 15th minute with shots from Marissa Gonzalez and Amy Wearing, but both attempts sailed wide. Rickerd kept the Roadrunners within striking distance, making four saves before halftime.

SECOND HALF
Dalton State came out more aggressive after the break, generating eight shots and three corner kicks in the second half. However, the FireHawks' defense held firm, and goalkeeper Stephanie Hodgson recorded her lone save late in the match. UT Southern doubled its lead in the 81st minute when Millie Rayner found the back of the net off a feed from Danielle Eker. Rickerd continued to shine in goal for Dalton State, finishing with seven saves on the night, but the Lady Roadrunners couldn't find an answer offensively.
