Dalton State Falls 4-1 To No. 2 William Carey In Road Battle


HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Dalton State put up a valiant fight against #2-ranked William Carey (Miss.) on Saturday afternoon, but an early surge from the Lady Saders proved too much to overcome as the Lady Roadrunners fell 4-1 in SSAC play. With the loss, Dalton State moves to 10-5-1 (5-4 SSAC), while William Carey improves to 14-1 (8-0 SSAC).
 
FIRST HALF
The opening 45 minutes were dominated by William Carey's relentless attack. The Lady Saders struck first in the 25th minute when Alessia Navarro converted a feed from Karen Vilau to make it 1-0. Vilau continued to orchestrate the offense, assisting on two more goals before halftime. Boo Mills doubled the lead in the 33rd minute off a corner sequence, and Maddie Davis capped the half with a goal in the 41st minute, giving William Carey a commanding 3-0 advantage at the break. Dalton State managed just one shot in the first half while goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd kept the Roadrunners in the game with three saves.
 
SECOND HALF
Dalton State showed resilience after halftime, finding the net in the 51st minute when Tania Dominguez finished a pass from Sophia Calkins to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Lady Roadrunners generated more chances in the second half, recording four shots and earning their lone corner kick of the match. However, William Carey sealed the win in the 83rd minute as Lauren Entremont scored off an assist from Davis, pushing the final score to 4-1. Rickerd added four more saves in the second half, totaling seven stops on the day.
