Dalton State Nets First Series Victory Over Thomas


DALTON, Ga. — Dalton State secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Thomas (Ga.) on Sunday afternoon at Dalton Stadium for their first win in the series against the NightHawks. A fifth-minute goal from forward Tania Dominguez, assisted by Aoife Saunders and Amy Wearing, proved to be the difference as the Roadrunners improved to 10-3-1 overall and 5-2-0 in conference play.
 
FIRST HALF
The Lady Roadrunners wasted no time asserting themselves, breaking through in the 5th minute when Dominguez finished a well-worked sequence set up by Saunders and Wearing. Dalton State generated early pressure with shots from Lauren Wright and Wearing, while goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd stood tall, making seven first-half saves to keep Thomas off the board. Both teams traded chances throughout the half, with Dalton State recording nine shots and Thomas matching that total, but the Lady Birds carried the slim lead into the break.
 
SECOND HALF
The second half turned into a defensive battle as Thomas pushed for an equalizer. Rickerd continued her stellar performance, adding two more saves to finish with nine on the day, including key stops on Sasha Manders and Hannah Henriksen. Dalton State managed six shots in the period and earned multiple corner kicks to relieve pressure, while Thomas hit the crossbar in the 67th minute but couldn't find the back of the net. A late yellow card to Ria Cox in the 87th minute highlighted the intensity as Dalton State held firm to preserve the clean sheet.
