#1 Birds Crush #10 Cumberlands (Ky.) 4-0 To Advance To National Championship Match


WICHITA, Kan. – #1 Dalton State men's soccer will play for a national championship! The Birds advanced to the National Championship match of the 2024 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship presented by Select Sport America after a decisive 4-0 win over #10 Cumberlands (Ky.) at Scheels Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Goal number one came in the 12' when a booted ball in the box found Giovanni Poliero who found the back of the net.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Jack Stainrod got the Birds on the board again in the 21' when he beat a Patriot on a breakout and stoned the goalkeeper for the score.
SECOND HALF
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Juan Demichelis made a great effort play on the third goal when Kazuma Ishizuka sent a ball in the box off a free kick that most player quit on because of a player hitting the deck, but Demichelis stayed with it and scored with a header.
  • (4-0 DS) DS: The last goal was a well place jump kick from Leonardo Seixas that sailed over multiple defenders and went upper right 90.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#1 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (21-0-2 overall) on the season with the win and advances to the national championship match in Wichita, Kan. At the same time, Cumberlands (Ky.) ends the season at (15-3-3 overall) with the loss.
 
Defense did the job as Nicolas Leite once again came up big in net with 5 saves, all in the first half. The D did not allow a single shot in the second period.
 
UP NEXT
#1-ranked Dalton State will take on #5 William Penn (Iowa) in the national championship match at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. on December 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (CT).
