Roadrunners Play Strong In Exhibition At North Alabama


FLORENCE, Ala. – Dalton State had a tough task in front of them on Wednesday against NCAA Division I North Alabama but played strong in a 100-69 defeat in an exhibition game at CB&S Arena in Florence, Ala.
 
THE FIRST HALF
  • Kawasiki Ricks got the first bucket of the game, followed by an Antonio Lewis trey to give the Roadrunners a 5-3 lead with 17:35 left in the half.
  • North Alabama quickly got into a groove and took off with a 16-0 run to take a 19-5 lead.
  • Tyshan Kelley had an acrobatic reverse left-handed layup to kill the run and make the score 19-7.
  • Kevin Henry and Qualen Pettus got in on the scoring act as they nailed free throws and shots from the field during the half.
  • Matt Compas made his presence known with some tough layups with Varun Danek collecting a basket as well with North Alabama carrying a 55-29 lead into the half.
THE SECOND HALF
  • DS matched the intensity at the beginning of the half, going toe-to-toe with UNA's first unit as they equaled the Lions 7 minutes into the half with baskets from Henry, Pettus, Smith, Lewis, and Omarion Smith.
  • A small spurt that saw Ricks, Smith, Compas, Kyoya Sasaki, and Tyshan Kelley all score cut the deficit to 24 points with 4:35 remaining.
  • In the end, UNA stretched the lead back out and carried a 100-69 win off the floor.
THE REST OF THE STORY:
Dalton State (Ga.) stays at (6-2 overall, 3-0 SSAC) after the exhibition, while North Alabama improves to (5-3 overall) with the win. The outstanding play of Kevin Henry led the Roadrunners as he posted 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.
 
Matt Compas and Antonio Lewis both had 12 points, as the other scorers in double-figures for the Birds. Compas added 9 boards and 4 steals, while Lewis hit 2 shots from distance.

BY THE NUMBERS
The overall numbers show how well the Roadrunners played, as they held an advantage in the paint at 42-38 and second-chance points at 23-17. North Alabama knocked down 14 triples compared to Dalton State's 6 and it proved to be a major difference in the contest.

UP NEXT
The Roadrunners will be back at home in Bandy Gym on Tuesday, December 3, when they host #9 Cumberlands (Ky.). Tip-Off on Coach O Court is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
