#1 Men's Golf Concludes Fall With Runner-Up Finish

VONORE, Tenn. – #1-ranked Dalton State suffered their first team loss of the season but came away with a runner-up finish at the Bojangles Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Links at Kahite in Vonore, Tenn. on Saturday and Sunday.
 
#16 Coastal Georgia took the team win at 1-under 863 with #1 Dalton State (Ga.) in 2nd at (880, +16). Fellow SSAC member Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) (887, +23) was third, with host Tennessee Wesleyan (888, +24) in 4th. Faulkner (Ala.) (899, +35) rounded out the top 5.

RECAP
ROUND 1
It was an 11-over 299 round to begin the tournament for the Birds with Jack Whaley leading the way with a 3-under 69. Tyler Latimer continued his great Fall play with a 2-over 74. Ben McFadden and Barrett Loftis both had rounds of 6-over 78 as the final keeper scores. The fifth score was Joe Getley with a 7-over 79. Dylan John played as an individual and carded a 76 (+4).
 
ROUND 2
Whaley once again hit red figures with a 2-under 70 as the team improved their second trip through the course with a 296 (+8). Latimer almost hit red with a 72 (E). McFadden and Loftis once again matched each other this time one stroke better than Round 1 with 77's (+5). Getley was also one stroke better in Round 2 with a 78 (+6). The individual, John, shot 82 (+10).
 
ROUND 3
DS shot the round of the day with a 285 (-3) to solidify the runner-up position as a team. Individually, Whaley continued to light it up with his third-straight under-par round with another 69 (-3). Latimer was right on his heels getting to red figures with a 70 (-2). McFadden shot a strong even-par 72 round with Getley getting the 4th score at 2-over 74. Loftis struggled with a 10-over 82 on the final day of play. John finished the tournament with an 86 (+16).

"Was nice to end the semester with a strong final round. This week wasn't our best but to finish second to a good team not playing our best was still a positive."
 
"To go through this Fall with one loss was impressive for this young group and has given us optimism, but also lots of things we have to work on this off season."
 
UP NEXT
For #1-ranked Dalton State (Ga.), this event concludes the Fall portion of the season. They will hit the white ball again in February at the Kinderlou Forest Spring Invite in Valdosta.
