NightHawks Protect Home Turf In Win Over Roadrunners


DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State stayed close in the first half, but Thomas finally got their shots to connect in the second half as they pulled away to defeat the Lady Roadrunners 4-0 in SSAC play at TU Soccer Complex in Thomasville on Thursday evening.
 
 HOW IT HAPPENED
 FIRST HALF 
  • (1-0 TU) TU: Kaitlyn Herb took a shot right before the half that drew a corner kick and with the second chance, Herb converted in the 45' for the first goal to send the NightHawks into the break with a lead.
SECOND HALF 
  • (2-0 TU) TU: Sasha Manders increased the lead in the 59' when she and Ali Baca connected for a goal.
  • (3-0 TU) TU: Goal number three came in the 73' as Pearl Mortimer and Elsebeth Andersen combined for a goal with Mortimer getting the score and Andersen the assist.
  • (4-0 TU) TU: Herb got the NightHawks on the board again, putting the match away in the 90' with a helpful hand from Jade Slaybaugh.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (5-3-1 overall, 2-2 SSAC) with the loss, as Thomas (Ga.) improves to (5-4-1 overall, 1-1-1 SSAC) following the win. Thomas sent a barrage of shots at Brooke Alvarez, 23 in total with 16 on goal. Alvarez collected 12 saves overall.
 
In contrast, Dalton State took four shots but held a 1.000 shots on goal percentage as all were on frame.
 
UP NEXT
Dalton State heads to Montgomery, Ala. next for a matchup with Faulkner (Ala.) on Saturday, September 30. Kick-Off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (CT).
