Lady Roadrunners Move To 2-1 In Conference Play With Win Over Middle Georgia


DALTON, Ga. – It took until the second half but the Lady Roadrunners finally got on the board in what turned out to be the only goal of the match as Dalton State defeated Middle Georgia 1-0 in a pivotal SSAC matchup at Dalton Stadium in Dalton on Sunday afternoon.

  • (1-0 DS) DS: Molly Duncan sent a pass to Marissa Gonzalez, who crossed the ball the distance of the 6-yard box to a sprinting Nicole Perez who beat the Middle Georgia goalkeeper for the game-winner.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (5-2-1 overall, 2-1 SSAC) with the win, while Middle Georgia State falls to (2-5-1 overall, 1-2 SSAC) following the loss. The Lady Birds get their second-straight regular season win over the Knights after last season's upset win in Cochran.
 
DS looked sluggish at the start as MG got numerous shots on goal, but Brooke Alvarez came up big, stopping six shots on the day. Middle Georgia outshot Dalton State 14-7 overall and 6-3 on frame. The Knights got 12 shots off on the Lady Roadrunner D in the first half compared to two for DS. The second half was a stark contrast as the Lady Birds held a 5-2 advantage in shots.

Dalton State travels to Thomasville to take on new SSAC member Thomas (Ga.) on Thursday, September 28. Kick-Off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
