#3 Roadrunners And #19 Running Eagles Play To A 2-2 Tie

DALTON, Ga. – #3-ranked Dalton State opened conference play against #19 Life (Ga.) on Sunday afternoon with a tie as the Roadrunners and the Eagles proved to be two evenly matched opponents, culminating in a score of 2-2. This was the first time a match between the SSAC rivals did not have a clear winner, pushing the all-time series to (3-1-1) in favor of the Birds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: In the 24', Frank Rodriguez put his pin-point accuracy and power on display, scoring from long-distance following an unpredictable Rasmus Andersson pass outside the box on a corner kick. The tally would give Rodriguez his 1st goal of the season, while Andersson collected his 6th assist of 2023.
SECOND HALF
  • (1-1 T) LU: Just over 30 seconds into the 2nd half in the 46', Stephane Shongo evened the score for the Eagles, finding the back of the net from about 20 yards out. The play started with a throw-in leading to a cross pass that found its way through the Roadrunner defenders.
  • (2-1 DS) DS: DS retook the lead in the 63' thanks to a Josh Ramos score that posed as a cross but still made it through for his team-leading 8th point of the year.
  • (2-2 T) LU: Five minutes later in the 68', Life evened things up again after Callum Jenkins and Lucas Williams-Ferna located Nipho Methula for the final notch of the day.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#3 Dalton State (Ga.) moves their record to (3-0-3 overall, 0-0-1 SSAC), while #19 Life (Ga.) pushes their standing to (2-2-2 overall, 0-0-1 SSAC). The Birds outshot the Eagles 15-8 overall, with the tally closer on goal at 8-5 still in favor of Dalton State. Life (Ga.) goalie Kanacki Branko finished with 7 saves, while Michael Barrueta collected 3 for the Roadrunners.
