Lady Roadrunners Fall To Tennessee Wesleyan In Season Opener


ATHENS, Tenn. – The Lady Roadrunners kicked the 2023 season off on Saturday, but it wasn't the start they wanted as they fell to Tennessee Wesleyan, 3-0, at TWU Athletic Complex in Athens, Tenn.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 TW) TW: Krista Eik Hardardottir got the Lady Bulldogs on the scoreboard first in the 9' with an assist from Jordan Smith.
SECOND HALF
  • (2-0 TW) TW: Hardardottir scored again in the 57', this time unassisted, for a 2-0 Tennessee Wesleyan lead.
  • (3-0 TW) TW: Hardardottir netted the hat trick in the 64' when she hooked up with Annabel Cuthbert for the third goal of the afternoon.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (0-1 overall) with the loss, while Tennessee Wesleyan improves to (1-0 overall) with the win. Ava Vandoren led the Lady Birds with 4 total shots, 2 of which came on goal. Briana Hurtado got 2 shots off with 1 on goal. Brooke Alvarez made two saves in goal.
 
The Lady Roadrunners held the advantage in corner kicks at 7-4 but could not convert any into goals. The Lady Bulldogs outshot DS 13-7 overall and 5-3 on frame.

UP NEXT
DS will host Sewanee (Tenn.) on Saturday, August 26, as part of the Dalton Classic. Kickoff for a big day of soccer begins at 11:00 am, with the Lady Roadrunners playing at 1:30 pm.
