Firehawks Down Lady Roadrunners With Barrage Of PK's


DALTON, Ga. – A 1-0 match turned sideways on Dalton State after an assortment of penalty kicks for #12 UT Southern (Tenn.) broke the score open as the Firehawks defeated the Lady Roadrunners, 4-0, in SSAC action at Dalton Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
 
 HOW IT HAPPENED
 FIRST HALF 
  • (1-0 UTS) UTS: The Firehawks pressed early and were rewarded with a score as Marina Nawa knocked a ball past Brooke Alvarez in the 5'.
SECOND HALF 
  • (2-0 UTS) UTS: Nawa scored again in the 59' off a penalty kick due to a questionable foul in the box.
  • (3-0 UTS) UTS: The hat trick was completed in the 82' on another converted PK by Nawa.
  • (4-0 UTS) UTS: PK number three for the Firehawks was put in the back of the net by Nao Katamoto in the 88'.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (6-4-1 overall, 3-3 SSAC) with the loss, while #12 UT Southern (Tenn.) improves to (10-3-2 overall, 5-1-1 SSAC) with the win. Shots were even in the first half at 4-4, but UT Southern hammered down in the second period with a 15-0 shot advantage.
 
Lesley Alanis had a PK attempt bounce off the crossbar in the first half that could have tied the match at 1-1. It was the best look at a goal the Lady Roadrunners had all afternoon. Brooke Alvarez recorded 5 saves in goal.
 
UP NEXT
A tough road trip ensues for the Lady Birds that starts with a match against Mobile (Ala.) on Thursday, October 12. Kick-Off from The Jungle is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (CT).
