#3 Roadrunners Move Closer To #2 Seed In SSAC Tournament

DALTON, Ga. – The #3-ranked Dalton State Roadrunners snagged the victory at Dalton Stadium during the last regular season home game, defeating Point (Ga.) 6-0, scoring 4 of 6 goals in the 2nd portion of play. With only 2 regular season matches left, the Birds will look to continue building momentum going into the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament scheduled to begin November 3, 2023. The location is still to be determined.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0) DS: In the 22', Rasmus Andersson kicked off the scoring, retrieving the deflection after a near Jack Stainrod goal and narrowly sending the ball into the corner of the net.
  • (2-0) DS: Just two minutes later, in the 24', Jurgen Ramirez and Juan Demichelis were able to sequence assists to find Jack Stainrod, scoring his team-leading 20th point of the season.
SECOND HALF
  • (3-0) DS: Following suit, the Birds were able to continue their 2nd-half dominance in the 58', this time Juan Demichelis notching a tally of his own.
  • (4-0) DS: Shortly after, in the 65', the Birds were able to extend the lead thanks to an own goal by Pointe (Ga.) on an attempted clear.
  • (5-0) DS: The Roadrunners would score another goal in 65', adding onto an already comfortable lead thanks to a Kazuma Ishizuka goal, assisted by Jack Brown and Juan Demichelis, who collected his 2nd assist of the night.
  • (6-0) DS: Concluding all scoring for the evening, DSC would notch their final goal in the 87' after a series of passes by Kazuma Ishizuka and Mizuki Saika that led to a Filemon Quintero goal.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#3 Dalton State (Ga.) improves their record (9-1-3 overall, 6-1-1 SSAC) with the victory. At the same time, Point (Ga.) falls to (3-10-0 overall, 2-7-0 SSAC) following the loss. The Birds once again controlled the match from the beginning, rarely giving the Sky Hawks scoring opportunities and creating scoring opportunities of their own, outshooting Pointe (Ga.) 20-9. Skyhawk goalie Callum Thompson was able to collect 9 saves in the afternoon, while Dalton State goalie Michael Barrueta saved 3 of his own.
