Lady Roadrunners Come Up Short Against #1 William Carey


HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Roadrunners held tough against the #1 team in the country, holding #1 William Carey (Miss.) to three goals in a 3-0 loss to the Crusaders in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF 
  • (1-0 WC) WC: Christina Salmon got Carey on the board in the 14' with an assist from Julia Herbst.
  • (2-0 WC) WC: The Crusaders made it a two-goal match in the 38' when Virginia Mesa found Karen Vilau for a goal.
SECOND HALF 
  • (3-0 WC) WC: Salmon and Herbst hooked up again in the 56' with the same result to make it 3-0.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (7-5-1 overall, 4-4 SSAC) with the loss, while #1 William Carey (Miss.) improves to (16-0-0 overall, 9-0-0 SSAC) with the win. Carey dominated the shot tally 25-1 overall and 11-0 on goal. Brooke Alvarez stood up to the test with 7 saves on the day.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Birds will be back on home turf on Sunday, October 22 for Senior Day when they take on Point (Ga.). Kickoff against the Skyhawks is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
