Lady Roadrunners Drop Home Match To Mobile


DALTON, Ga. – The Lady Roadrunners were within striking distance late but an untimely turnover in their own zone with just minutes left allowed Mobile to pull away for a 3-1 win over Dalton State in SSAC action at Dalton Stadium on Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 UM) UM: Reagan Latiolais knocked in a ball after battle with a Dalton State defender to put the Rams on the board first in the 15'.
  • (2-0 UM) UM: Mia Mugford found a cutting Madison Beaver in the 21' to put Mobile up by two goals.
  • (2-1 DS) DS: Brianna Hurtado got the Lady Birds within one-goal in the 29' when she hit a shot from the ground that skirted past the surprised UM goalkeeper.
SECOND HALF
  • (3-1 UM) UM: Sophie Roberts intercepted a ball deep in DS territory in the 83' and finished for the final goal of the evening and a 3-1 Ram lead.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) drops to (2-3-3 overall, 0-1-1 SSAC) on the season with the loss, while Mobile (Ala.) improves to (6-2-2 overall, 2-0-0 SSAC) with the win. Brianna Hurtado scored the lone Dalton State goal of the day, the 4th of the year for the freshman. Brooke Alvarez stopped six shots in net.
 
The shot count was even at 15-15, the difference being a 9-3 shots on goal advantage carried by Mobile. Fouls and corner kicks were also even at 8-8 and 2-2 respectively.

UP NEXT
The Roadrunners will have another stiff test when #6 William Carey (Miss.) comes to town on Sunday, October 2. Kickoff against the Crusaders is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
