#10 Roadrunners Win Big Over Northwest (Wash)


DALTON, Ga. – #10-ranked Dalton State scored the first goal and never looked back cruising down the stretch to a 5-1 win over Northwest (Wash.) in soccer action at Dalton Stadium in Dalton on Sunday morning.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: The Birds stormed down the pitch with numbers led by Leonardo Seixas who swung the ball to the flank to Rasmus Andersson who found Javier Morejon in the middle of the box for the 1st goal in the 20'.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Two of the 3 Roadrunners from the previous scoring play (Seixas and Morejon) hooked up for another goal a little less than a minute later when Seixas found Morejon off a corner kick for a 2-0 lead.
  • (2-1 DS) NW: Brayden Corwin sent a throw-in into the box in the 37' which Max Herrig found and headed past Michael Barrueta to make it a 1-score contest.
SECOND HALF
  • (3-1 DS) DS: Justin Riescher crossed a beautiful in the 54' and found a sprinting Rasmus Andersson who tickled the back of the next to put the Roadrunner lead back at 2 goals.
  • (4-1 DS) DS: The lead grew in the 63' when Blas Elizondo intercepted a ball deep in Northwest territory and touch passed to Riescher for the finisher.
  • (5-1 DS) DS: DS put the icing on the cake in the 77' when Elizondo bolstered his stats with assist number 2 as Cristiano Catarino notched a goal.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#10 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (5-0-2 overall) with the win, while Northwest (Wash.) falls to (2-2-1 overall) with the loss. It was all Roadrunners for the better part of the match. Javier Morejon scored twice, while Justin Riescher, Rasmus Andersson, and Cristiano Catarino each contributed.
 
Leonardo Seixas and Blas Elizondo both had 2 assists with Justin Riescher getting 1. The Birds outshot the Eagles 19-2 overall with a 7-2 advantage on frame.

UP NEXT
#10-ranked Dalton State had their upcoming match with Fisk (Tenn.) on Saturday, September 17 recorded as a forfeit. Their following match against Reinhardt (Ga.) now follows on Wednesday, September 21. Kickoff at Dalton Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
