#14 Life Takes Down #1 Dalton State On Late Goal


MONTGOMERY, Ala. – #1 Dalton State suffered their first setback of the season as #14 Life (Ga.) defeated the Roadrunners 2-1 in the semifinal round of the SSAC Men's Soccer Championships presented by Newk's Eatery at Emory Folmar YMCA Complex in Montgomery, Ala. Wednesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Leonardo Seixas took a 2 v 1 against a defender and goalkeeper and managed to weave around to put Dalton State up by 1-goal in the 3'.
  • (1-1 T) LU: The Running Eagles tied the match at 1-all in the 26' on a connection between Luciano Diaz and Thierry Jules with Jules getting the goal.
SECOND HALF
  • (2-1 LU) LU: Manuel Carrillo took a pass off the flank and sprinted ahead with a DS defender on his hip taking a shot that narrowly went past a diving Michael Barrueta for the winning goal in the 88'.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#1 Dalton State (Ga.) falls (14-1-3 overall) with the loss, while #14 Life (Ga.) improves to (13-2-1 overall) with the win and advance to the championship round. Leonardo Seixas got the only goal for the Roadrunners in the early going of the match, his 7th of the season. Thierry Jules and Manuel Carrillo scored for the Running Eagles.
 
Shots were equal at 8 each with the Birds holding the advantage on goal at 4-3. Dalton State held an enormous advantage in corner kicks at 7-1 but failed to convert one into a score.

UP NEXT
Dalton State will now look ahead to the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship that begins on Thursday, November 17. Dalton Stadium will be a host site for the opening round as the Roadrunners will welcome three other teams to Dalton for two days of exciting soccer action.
