Dalton State Improves to 3-1 With 61-55 Home Win Over Fisk

DALTON, Ga. – After starting the season with three road contests, the Dalton State Men's Basketball team finally got the opportunity to get on the court at Mashburn Arena and came away victorious with a 61-55 win over visiting Fisk (Tenn.) in non-conference basketball action on Thursday night.

THE FIRST HALF
  • A foul on Jaelin Ferrell in the act of shooting a three called for 3 free throws which Ferrell hit to give Dalton State a 3-0 lead of the bat.
  • A Donavan Miller trey at the 12:22 mark gave the Roadrunners an 8-point lead (17-9).
  • Fisk clawed back to within 3 points (17-14) after a Ralph Davenport jumper with 10:09 on the clock.
  • An 8-0 run capped by a Ferrell three put the lead in double-digits for the first time at 11 points (25-14) with 7:06 remaining in the half.
  • Fisk pulled to within 6 points on two occasions as the half closed, but a thunderous block from Carterius Evans preserved an 8-point lead (33-25) for the Birds at the break.

THE SECOND HALF
  • Dalton State continued to hold a steady lead in the mid-single digits for the 10 minutes of the second period before extending the lead back to 11 points with 8:46 on the clock.
  • The Roadrunners looked to put the game away and got the lead to 14 points with 3:39 remaining in regulation after a hard-fought offensive rebound and emphatic put back from Evans.
  • Fisk would not surrender as they went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 5 points with 2:01 to play.
  • DS used the clock and the foul count to their advantage to bleed the next minute and 48 seconds.
  • Sean Cobb tacked on a final free throw as a last ditch effort from Fisk fell short with Dalton State getting the 61-55 win.
