#15 Roadrunners Get Big Home Win


DALTON, Ga. – #15 Dalton State rebounded from a tough loss on Saturday to get a 4-2 win over visiting Bryan (Tenn.) in non-conference soccer action at Lakeshore Park late on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Jurgen Ramirez rebounded a ball in the 18' and put it on the lower left for the first goal of the night.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: A foul in the box in the 40' gave Justin Riescher a chance to extend the lead with a PK which he did to put the Birds up two goals.
  • (2-1 DS) BC: Two minutes later in the 42' another takedown in the box, this time in the favor of Bryan, led to another PK with Marcelo Martins converting to cut the Roadrunner lead to one-goal.
SECOND HALF
  • (3-1 DS) DS: The Dalton State lead went back up to two goals in the 50' when another PK was called that Riescher one again converted.
  • (3-2 DS) BC: An astounding fourth PK was called in the 52' with Martins from Bryan once again cutting into the DS lead.
  • (4-2 DS) DS: Ramirez showed out again in the 66' when he booted a thirty-yard free kick into the net to put the match out of reach.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#15 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to 3-2 overall with the win, while Bryan (Tenn.) falls 1-3 overall with the loss. Justin Riescher and Jurgen Ramirez each netted two goals in the win. Michael Barrueta had two saves in net including a fingertip grab off a forty-yard free kick that was highlight worthy.
 
The Birds outshot the Lions 11-7 overall and 7-4 on frame. The physical match had a combined 31 fouls with 16 going to Bryan and 15 to Dalton State.

#15-ranked Dalton State will travel to face #10 Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday, September 11 in Williamsburg, Ky. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (CT)
