Lady Roadrunners Get Blowout Win Over Wesleyan


DALTON, Ga. – The Lady Roadrunners bounced back from a loss to UT Southern to take down Wesleyan (Ga.) 10-0 at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex in Dalton on Wednesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Molly Duncan got scoring started in the 6' with the first goal on the night.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Ava Van Doren got her first of two goals when she hooked up with Brianna Smotherman for a 2-0 lead in the 31'.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Guadalupe Martinez got free in the 42' and kicked it in with the left boot.
  • (4-0 DS) DS: Van Doren received a thru pass from Caylee Carpenter and finished the breakaway in back of the net in the 43'.
SECOND HALF
  • (5-0 DS) DS: Kylie Pritchett knocked a ball in the 63' that deflected off a Wesleyan player and went into the goal.
  • (6-0 DS) DS: The beginning of the 67' saw Isabella Weigle find Ashley Medrano for the 6th goal of the evening.
  • (7-0 DS) DS: A takedown in the box in the 73' called for a penalty kick that Brianna Smotherman knocked through.
  • (8-0 DS) DS: Medrano collected goal number two and Carpenter assist number two in the 80'.
  • (9-0 DS) DS: Rocio Carrizales converted a scoring opportunity in the beginning of the 89' on an assist from Jailyne Martinez.
  • (10-0 DS) DS: Carrizales paid the favor back to Martinez in the back half of the 89' for the 10th and final goal.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to 2-3 overall with the win, while Wesleyan (Ga.) falls to 0-1 overall with the loss. Ava Van Doren and Ashley Medrano each scored twice with six other Lady Roadrunners getting on the board. Caylee Carpenter notched two assists.
 
DS outshot Wesleyan by a staggering amount, 32-2 and 20-2 on frame. Corner kicks also went the way of the Lady Birds, 9-0.

UP NEXT
The Lady Roadrunners will be back at Lakeshore Park on Sunday, September 5 when they host Albany State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
