DS Gets Win #3 On Year With Victory Over Albany State


DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State carried a two-goal first half into a 3-1 win over NCAA DII opponent Albany State in non-conference soccer action at Lakeshore Park in Dalton on Sunday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Brianna Smotherman stole a ball on the opponent side of the pitch in the 18' and booted it in for the score.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Jailyne Martinez received a pretty corner from Isabella Weigle and put the ball in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead in the 38'
 
SECOND HALF
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Megan Wilson and Nicole Perez combined for a goal in the 55' to give the Lady Birds a 3-0 lead.
  • (3-1 DS) AS: Amber Riqueline caught a rebound and kicked it past Brook Alvarez to get the Golden Rams on the board in the 73'.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to 3-3 overall with the win, while Albany State falls 0-1 overall with the loss. Wilson, Smotherman, and Martinez all collected their 3rd goals of the season, while Brooke Alvarez stopped 4 of 5 shots she faced in net.
 
DS carried the shot lead 20-10 overall and 12-5 on frame. Isabella Weigle and Nicole Perez each collected assists in the contest.

UP NEXT
The Lady Roadrunners will be back in action on Wednesday, September 8 when they take on Bryan (Tenn.). Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Lakeshore Park.
