Lady Birds Win Home Opener


DALTON, Ga. – The Dalton State Women's Soccer team got back to .500 on the season with a win Sewanee (Tenn.) in non-conference soccer action at Lakeshore Park in Dalton on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • NO SCORING
SECOND HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: After a handball in the box off a corner kick, Rocio Carrizales stepped up for the penalty shot and converted for the 1-0 lead.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: After getting free on a few opportunities, Megan Wilson converted a goal for a 2-0 Lady Bird lead.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Guadalupe Martinez extended the lead to three when she beat the goalkeeper who came out close to midfield to stop a scoring attempt and broke away to an empty net in the 78'.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to 1-1 overall with the win. For Sewanee, the match was an exhibition as NCAA DIII members are not allowed to have countable contest until September 1.
 
Rocio Carrizales, Megan Wilson, and Guadalupe Martinez all scored for the Lady Roadrunners in the win. Mattie Dollar continued her solid play in net with a shutout.

UP NEXT
The Lady Roadrunners will hit the road for their next two matches when they take on Tennessee Wesleyan on August 24 and #5 UT Southern, formally Martin Methodist (Tenn.), on August 28. They will be back at Lakeshore Park on September to take on Wesleyan (Ga.).
