Lady Roadrunners Drop Tough Match To Mobile


DALTON, Ga. – The Dalton State Women's Soccer team held the halftime lead, but a second half surge from Mobile gave the Rams the 4-2 win over the Lady Roadrunners in SSAC soccer action at Lakeshore Park in Dalton on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Ava Van Doren hit a nice shot with the left boot that curled over Ram goalkeeper Payton Lewis's outstretched arms in the 1'.
  • (1-1 T) UM: Rachel Salyn tied it up for Mobile in the 22' on a loose ball in front of the net.
  • (2-1 DS) DS: The Lady Birds took the lead in the 34' when Heather Allen booted one in for the lead.
 
SECOND HALF
  • (2-2 T) UM: The Rams tied it up again in the 52' when Elke Fernandez found space and kicked it past Alvarez.
  • (3-2 UM) UM: Mobile took the lead when Fernandez connected with Sophie Walsh on a cross in the 81'.
  • (4-2 UM) UM: Fernandez repaid the favor to Walsh in the 85' when she hit Walsh with a cross that Walsh put in the back of the net.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to 4-9 overall (1-5 SSAC) with the loss, while Mobile (Ala.) improves to 3-9-1 overall (1-2 SSAC) with the win. Ava Van Doren and Heather Allen collected goals for the Lady Roadrunners, while Brooke Alvarez saved 8 shots.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
Mobile outshot Dalton State 20-11 overall and 12-8 on goal. DS got more chances from the corner than the Rams at 4-3 but could not score off any set pieces.

UP NEXT
DS will hit the road next week to conclude the regular season with a match at Georgia Gwinnett. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Lawrenceville.
