Roadrunners Get Back To Business With Rout Of Brewton-Parker (Ga.)


DALTON, Ga. – After postponing two games this week the Roadrunners finally got back on the court with a 72-43 rout of Brewton-Parker (Ga.) in SSAC action at Bandy Gym in Dalton on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE FIRST HALF
  • Brewton-Parker scored the first bucket of the game, but Dalton State came back with an 18-5 run to take a 18-7 lead just past the halfway mark of the first period.
  • The lead stayed in double-digits and grew to 16 points the first time after C.J. Perry got loose for 2 in the paint with 1:37 left in the half.
  • An impressive offensive rebound and put back from Marquel Wiggins went down as the buzzer rang to end the half as the Roadrunners went into the break with a 16-point lead (32-16).
 
THE SECOND HALF
  • Antares Gwyn had a quiet afternoon, but got the scoring going in the second half with a nice fade-a-way to give the Birds an 18-point lead (34-16) just under two minutes into the period.
  • DS kept the lead above 15 points then Perry got hot hitting 3 trey's in a 19-8 run that saw the Birds stretch the lead to 25 points (60-35) with 7:05 remaining in the half.
  • The Roadrunners kept their foot on the gas pedal never letting the lead get below 23 points as they cruised to a 73-42 win.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (6-8 overall, 5-4 SSAC) with the win, while Brewton-Parker (Ga.) falls to (4-16 overall, 2-8 SSAC) with the loss. Marquel Wiggins led the Roadrunners with 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor. Wiggins added 7 rebounds and 1 steal to the stat line.
 
C.J. Perry and Aleksandar Pantelic joined him in double-figures with 17 points each. They combined to hit 7 of the 8 Dalton State 3's on the afternoon. Perry mixed in 4 rebounds and 4 dimes, while Pantelic added 5 boards. Aaron Burress pulled 10 off the glass to go along with 6 points.
 
Corey Thomas was the only Baron in double-digits with 13 points. Chance Hatcher and John Allen had 8 and 7 points respectively.

BY THE NUMBERS
The Roadrunners held a 46% to 36.7% edge from the floor over the Barons. Dalton State held Brewton-Parker to 7-for-22 (31.82%) shooting in the first half in pulling out a 16-point halftime lead. The Birds extended the advantage in the second half by shooting 51.72% (15-for-29) from the field.
 
Neither team lit it up from distance with DS shooting 28.6% (8-for-28) and BP shooting 14.3% (3-for-21). The battle on the boards went to DS (38-25) as did points in the paint (32-18), bench points (22-11) and points off turnovers (12-9).

UP NEXT
The Roadrunners will hit the floor again for back-to-back games on Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13 when they host Florida College at Bandy Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Seating capacity at Bandy Gym remains at 20% and is limited to family members and guest of participating Dalton State student-athletes and coaches. No tickets are allotted for sale to the general public.
