Roadrunners Get Second Straight Win With Victory Over Florida College

DALTON, Ga. – Four Roadrunners scored in double-figures as Dalton State inched closer to .500 with a 74-62 win over Florida College at Bandy Gym in Dalton on Friday night.

THE FIRST HALF
  • Aleksandar Pantelic was on point early for the Birds with the first 5 Roadrunner points of the game as DS got out to an early 5-4 lead just under 2 minutes in.
  • Pantelic stayed hot and got some help from Aaron Burress and Antares Gwyn in building a 6-point lead (14-8) for the Dalton State at the 14:16 mark.
  • The lead evaporated quickly as the Falcons got hot from the outside hitting 4 treys in a two-minute span to take a 22-19 lead.
  • A 6-0 run from the Birds capped by a Gwyn three put the Roadrunners back in front with a 25-22 lead with 10:16 remaining in the half.
  • FC moved back in front at 27-25 with 8:11 on the clock with a Jalon Perry three-pointer.
  • It would be almost three minutes until a C.J. Perry three gave the Birds back the lead and started a back-and-forth affair that had the lead trade hands three more times.
  • With the Falcons holding the ball for the last shot of the half, Perry jumped a pass and raced down court with a flanking Burress who finished the play before the buzzer rang to send the game into the half with a 35-35 tie.

THE SECOND HALF
  • DS jumped out to a 4-point advantage with the first two buckets of the half, but Florida College began to heat up from distance once again and snagged a 46-44 lead with 13:37 left to play.
  • FC tried to run away but 2 three balls from Igor Stokic helped give the Roadrunners back the lead at 52-51 with 11:11 on the clock.
  • D.J. Doakes hit a layup on the Falcons next possession to retake the lead, but it would be the last time they held it.
  • After a little over a minute of scoreless ball Aaron Burress got fouled and went to the charity stripe and hit two free throws to give DS a 54-53 lead.
  • Dalton State gradually began to stretch the advantage out getting it to 8 points (68-60) with 2:31 to go in the game after a bucket from Perry.
  • The Roadrunners stepped up big only allowing 2 more points and scoring 6 of their own to take a 74-62 win over the Falcons.
