#13 Roadrunners Fall To #11 Crusaders In Season Finale


HATTIESBURG, Miss. – #13 Dalton State had #11 William Carey (Miss.) on the ropes but a late goal from the Crusaders gave them a 3-2 victory in the SSAC regular-season finale for both squads at Crusader Field in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 WC) WC: Ignacio Palacio went in unassisted for the first goal of the day in the 14' for the Crusaders
  • (2-0 WC) WC: Carey extended the lead in the 27' when Reece Harrison booted one in with an assist from Juan Ruiz Cabello.
  • (2-1 WC) DS: Balmore Cruz helped close the gap with a goal in the 39' on a Justin Riescher assist.
SECOND HALF
  • (2-2 T) DS: The Birds hit the equalizer in the 48' off the boot of Zachary Perry.
  • (3-2 WC) WC: Ruiz Cabello notched a goal of his own in the 81' that proved to be the match winner.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#13 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (11-4-1 overall, 5-2 SSAC) with the loss, while #11 William Carey (Miss.) improves to (13-3 overall, 6-1 SSAC) with the loss. Balmore Cruz and Zachary Perry each collected goals while Justin Riescher got his third assist of the season. Shots were even at 12-12 with the Roadrunners holding the advantage on frame at 8-6.
