Riescher Scores Two More As Birds Improve To 2-0


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Justin Riescher once again scored two more goals and senior Kevin Villatoro added another as Dalton State defeated Johnson (Tenn.) 3-0 in non-conference soccer action in Knoxville, Tenn. on Saturday evening.
 
FIRST HALF
Keeping to their style, the Roadrunners pressed early and often for a quick go-ahead goal. The first nine missed their mark, but the 10th attempt found its mark off the boot of Justin Riescher in the 20' for the 1-0 lead.
 
The Birds continued to dominate the shot count to the tune of 15-1 in the first half. Shot number sixteen gave DS a 2-0 lead as Riescher once again found the back of the net in the 40'. It would be the last goal of the half as the Birds carried the two-goal advantage into the break
 
SECOND HALF
The first goal of the second half came quick as Kevin Villatoro beat Guillerme Catena for a 3-0 lead. It proved to be the only goals they would need as DS cruised down the stretch for the 3-0 win.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to 2-0 overall with the win, while Johnson (Tenn.) falls to 0-1 overall with the loss. Junior Justin Riescher scored two more goals on the young season. He now has four goals through two games.
 
Kevin Villatoro added a goal to the stat sheet and freshman Francisco Medina recorded his second assist of the year. Aaron Fraire collected another clean sheet with the shutout victory.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
The Roadrunners outshot the Royals 26-1 and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. Johnson goalkeeper Guillerme Catena allowed three goals, but came up with 11 saves to keep the Royals in the contest.
 
UP NEXT
On the horizon for the Roadrunners is a matchup with Life (Ga.) on Friday, October 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
