Van Doren Notches Hat Trick As Lady Roadrunners Cruise To 7-1 Victory


KNOXVILLE, TENN. – The Dalton State Women's Soccer team got back on the winning track in a big way with a 7-1 road victory at Johnson (Tenn.) in non-conference soccer action in Knoxville, Tenn. on Monday evening.
 
THE FIRST HALF
It didn't take long for the Lady Birds to get on the board as Ava Van Doren and Emily Darnell knocked in goals in the first six minutes of play for a quick 2-0 lead. Nicole Perez assisted on Van Doren's opening goal and collected one of her own in the 11' to put the Lady Roadrunners up 3-0.
 
Caylee Carpenter assisted on a goal by Heather Allen in the 23' before Van Doren scored again in the 24' for a 5-0 Dalton State lead. The five-goal advantage is what the Lady Roadrunners carried into the half.
 
THE SECOND HALF
Carpenter scored a goal just shy of the two minutes into the second half on another assist from Nicole Perez for a 6-0 Roadrunner lead. Van Doren completed the hat trick in the 71' to extend the lead to 7-0.
 
Taylor Neltner got the Lady Royals on the board in the 73' to make the score 7-1. The Lady Roadrunner defense handled the match the rest of the way as Dalton State cruised to a 7-1 win.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to (2-1 overall) with the win, while Johnson (Tenn.) falls to (2-3 overall) with the loss. Caylee Carpenter had a career night netting four goals and two assists.
 
Freshman Ava Van Doren collected a hat trick with her first three goals as a Lady Roadrunner. Fellow freshmen Nicole Perez, Heather Allen, and Emily Darnell also scored with Perez assisting on two goals. Junior Caylee Carpenter got in on the act as well with one goal and one assist. Brooke Alvarez got her first start in net and saved seven shots while allowing a single goal. The Lady Birds held the advantage in shots at 23-12 with an 18-8 clip on frame.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Roadrunners will be in action again on Saturday, November 7 when they will be the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team as both squads take on Martin Methodist (Tenn.). Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
