#19 Dalton State Makes It Nine-Straight With Win Over Fisk (Tenn.)


DALTON, Ga. - #19 Dalton State took a one-game break from SSAC play and in the process racked up win number sixteen, their ninth-in-a-row with an 86-62 drubbing of Fisk (Tenn.) at Mashburn Arena on Tuesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
THE FIRST HALF
  • The Roadrunners raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest.
  • Fisk started to heat up from the field shortly after, cutting the lead to three points (14-11) with 12:30 remaining in the half.
  • Dalton State then steadily drew the lead out getting it to 11 points (31-20) after a rim rattler from C.J. Perry at the 7:38 mark.
  • Fisk made one more run and got the deficit back to single digits with under two minutes left, but DS closed with a 10-0 run to end the half with a 47-30 lead.
 
THE SECOND HALF
  • The Bulldogs stormed out of the halftime break with a 15-2 run to close within four points (47-45) just three minutes into the second period.
  • Randy Bell and Kevon Tucker answered for the Birds with seven-straight to go back up by double-digits.
  • Hustle plays from Fisk kept the game close for a while, but Dalton State gradually drew the lead out.
  • With 7:21 on the clock, the lead stood at 21 points (76-55). From there the Roadrunners put it on cruise control and picked up the 86-62 victory.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#19 Dalton State improves to (16-1 overall, 5-1 SSAC) with the win, while Fisk (Tenn.) falls to (4-16 overall) with the loss. Five Roadrunners scored in double-figures led by Randy Bell with 23 points, six assists, and three rebounds. Kevon Tucker (11), Aaron Burress (10), and Rodley Adjei (10) were also in double-digits along with Igor Stokic who posted a 10 point and 10 rebound double-double.
 
Marcus Summerville led Fisk with 20 points and four rebounds, with A.J. Hassell collecting 11 points two rebounds and one steal.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
The edge on the glass went to the Roadrunners, 40-29, as did points in the paint 38-22 for a decided ownership of the lane on the night. Fisk managed to nip Dalton State in points off turnovers, 16-15.
 
In building a 17 point halftime lead, the Roadrunners shot an amazing 59.3 % (16-for-27) from the field. Overall for the game they hit at a 50% (29-for-58) clip. In contrast, the Dalton State defense held the Bulldogs to 38.3% (23-for-60) from the field.
 
UP NEXT
#19 Dalton State will be on the road the next two weeks with three challenging matchups against William Carey (Miss.) on Saturday, January 18, #8 Loyola (La.) on Monday, January 20, and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Saturday, January 25.
 
They will be back at home on Thursday, January 30 against Stillman (Ala.) and Saturday, February 1 against Mobile (Ala.). Both games will be on campus at Bandy Gymnasium and are not part of the season ticket package at Mashburn Arena. Admission will be $5 for all.
