#19 Roadrunners Get Hard Fought Win Over Visiting Blue Mountain

DALTON, Ga. - #19 Dalton State faced a tough test from a talented Blue Mountain (Miss.) squad but fought hard to get win #14 on the season with an 83-75 victory over the Toppers in SSAC action at Mashburn Arena on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • A slow start for both teams yielded just 11 points combined in the first five minutes of the games as the Roadrunners held an 8-3 lead.
  • Dalton State got it going soon after with a 10-0 run capped by two Timothy Green free throws to give the Birds a 12-point lead (18-6).
  • C.J. Perry knocked down a trey with 8:47 remaining in the half to extend the lead to 15 points (26-11).
  • The lead stayed in double-digits until the five-minute mark when the Toppers began to chip away.
  • With 3:02 left the advantage dwindled to six (34-28) with a Will Gardner bucket in the paint.
  • DS worked to get the lead back to 11 with under two minutes to go, but Blue Mountain closed the half scoring eight of the final ten points to cut the deficit to five (41-36) at the break.

THE SECOND HALF
  • Kevon Tucker connected from deep to get the scoring started and give the Roadrunners an eight-point lead (44-36).
  • BMC quickly answered by rattling off a 13-4 run to take a one-point lead (49-48) just under five minutes into the half.
  • Tucker splashed another shot from distance on the very next possession to retake the lead for Dalton State.
  • The Roadrunners continued to hold a slim lead until the midway point of the half when Aleska Vujadinovic hit a basket in the lane to tie the game at 56-56.
  • Randy Bell provided the fireworks next as he raced down court after Vujadinovic's bucket to hit a three of his own to maintain the lead.
  • The Toppers hit another spurt and gained the lead back (66-65) with 6:21 on the clock after two Da'Juonta Ross free throws.
  • Back-and-forth the game went for the next two minutes, until the 4:26 mark when Aaron Burress hit consecutive baskets to give the Birds a three-point advantage (73-70).
  • Dalton State didn't look back from there as they finished the game off from the charity stripe to come away with an 83-75 win.
