Roadrunner Win Streak Now At Four After 2-0 Win Over Milligan

DALTON, Ga. – The Dalton State Men's Soccer team ran their win streak to four games with a 2-0 win over visiting Milligan (Tenn.) in non-conference action at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
The Roadrunners once again started the match by pressing the ball and looking for an early goal. They would get three shots at Buffaloes goalkeeper Jared Whittenbarger in the first four minutes of the contest with another going wide.

The next phase on the pitch was a defensive struggle as both squads locked down and made scoring opportunities hard to come by. Dalton State got a scoring chance in the 31' with Taeylor Fisch, Fredrik Ackander, and Justin Riescher getting looks. Fisch and Ackander's opportunities went high and wide respectively, while Riescher's was stopped by Whittenbarger.

Milligan finally got an opportunity to put the ball in the net, but Aaron Friare would stone a shot by Roberto Fernandez Garrido. With three minutes left until halftime, Fisch took a lead pass and raced down field breaking a double-team and skirting right to avoid a defender. When he turned, he found Santiago Moore all alone who finished with a kick to his right that beat Whittenbarger for the first score of the match as the Roadrunners went into the break, up 1-0.

THE SECOND HALF
The Buffaloes got the advantage to start the second period of play with a shot on Fraire in the 52' that was saved. Another exchange of shots for the Roadrunners followed the Milligan attack, but neither Amin Saheb Ettabaa nor Harrison Fraire could make it past Whittenbarger.

Another MC attack began in the 71' with Garrido getting another strike into Fraire only for it to be stopped to preserve the lead. The intensity steadily picked up as the score remained 1-0 with the teams exchanging scoring looks. Neither squad managed to get the ball past the opposing netminders, who were going toe-to-toe.

With time running out, Noah Thomas took a lead pass and screamed down the pitch. He got free after splitting two defenders and sent a heater past Whittenbarger to put the Roadrunners up by two at 2-0.

Regrouping, Milligan attempted to get a goal on the board before time expired. They only mustered one chance as Daniel Pinkney's shot didn't make it past Fraire. When the buzzer sounded, the Roadrunners made it four-straight victories with a 2-0 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to (4-1 overall) with the win, while Milligan (Tenn.) falls to (1-2 overall) with the loss. Santiago Moore collected the first goal of the day in the 41' on an assist from Taeylor Fish, with Noah Thomas getting the second in the 82'. Roadrunner goalie Aaron Fraire produced another clean sheet, his third in the last four matches, and recorded five saves.
Roberto Fernandez Garrido produced two shots on goal for the Buffaloes, while Jared Whittenbarger notched seven saves with two goals allowed.

The Roadrunners led the way in shots (13-7) and shots on goal (9-6). The Buffaloes, meanwhile, had more corner kicks (7) than Dalton State (4), but could not convert those chances into goals.
