Four Roadrunners Hit Double-Figures In Win Over Blue Mountain


DALTON, Ga. - Four Roadrunners scored in double-figures, while one came close to completing a triple-double as Dalton State took down Blue Mountain (Miss.) 77-65 in SSAC action at Mashburn Arena in Dalton on Saturday afternoon.

FIRST HALF
Jonah Simpson from Blue Mountain got the scoring started with a three-pointer and a 3-0 Topper lead. From there, the Roadrunners broke the game open with 15-straight points to take the lead by 12. Buckets from Sean Cranney and Sean Chislom saw the Roadrunners extend the lead to 13 points at 22-9 with 11:02 until halftime.

With 5:13 remaining in the half, Randy Bell hit a shot that drew the lead out to 18-points at 36-18 for Dalton State. Blue Mountain came back with eight straight to cut the lead to 10. The rest of the half saw the teams trade buckets as Dalton State went into the break up 10, 40-30.
 
SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners out-scored Blue Mountain 14-6 to open the second half and got the lead back out to 18 points, 54-36, after five minutes had expired. The Toppers tried to get back into the game, but Dalton State would not let the lead get into single digits.

A shot from distance by Tyler Phillips with 7:08 on the clock found its mark and made the score 65-49 in favor of the Roadrunners. The Toppers chipped away at the lead down the stretch, but would not get the deficit below 10 points. In the end, Dalton State made it two-straight wins with a 77-65 victory.
 
REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (15-10 overall, 10-7 SSAC) with the win, while Blue Mountain (Miss.) falls to (10-13 overall, 4-13 SSAC) with the loss. Four Roadrunners scored in double-figures, led by Sean Chislom with 19 points and eight rebounds. Malik Pugh connected on three shots from distance and added 14 points and six boards.
 
Randy Bell netted 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, while Timothy Green came off the bench to score 10 points and pull down seven rebounds. Sean Cranney may not have scored in double-figures, but he knocked on the door of a triple-double with eight points, seven rebounds, and eight assists.
 
Chattanooga, Tenn. native Da'Juonta Ross led the Toppers with 21 points and seven rebounds. Jonah Simpson added 19 points with two treys.

The Roadrunners out-rebounded the Toppers, 50-29, including 18 on the offensive end. Dalton State converted the 18 rebounds into 11 second chance points. DS went 8-18 (44.4%) from three-point distance and 13-15 (86.7%) from the charity stripe in the win. The Roadrunner D held Blue Mountain to 4-of-19 (21.1%) from three, and 37.3% overall from the field.
 
UP NEXT
Dalton State will finish up their three-game home stand on Monday, February 11 when they take on Martin Methodist (Tenn.) at Mashburn Arena. Tip-Off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
