#21 Roadrunners Get Eighth Win Behind Near Triple-Double From Adjei


DALTON, Ga. – The #21 Roadrunners got back to their winning ways and in the process nearly got a triple-double from Rodley Adjei in a 92-77 win over Edward Waters (Fla.) in non-conference action at Mashburn Arena on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
THE FIRST HALF
  • Both teams shot well from the field with the early score tied at 8-8 a little under four minutes in.
  • What ensued after was a 9-0 Roadrunner run capped by two free throws from Igor Stokic at the 13:49 mark to take a 17-8 lead.
  • The Birds got the lead into double-digits and stretched it out to 12 points on multiple occasions.
  • Edward Waters whittled the lead down to seven points at 35-28 with 6:25 left after a Charles Oakley bucket.
  • DS answered by extending the lead back into double-figures and carried an 11-point lead, 49-38, into the half.
 
THE SECOND HALF
  • The Tigers started the second half with consecutive three balls to cut the lead to five less than an minute in.
  • After exchanging buckets, the lead was trimmed to four after a Chandler Fointno basket with 15:31 remaining.
  • The margin remained between four and eight points for the next four minutes until Anthony Young hit a trey with 11:30 left to get the deficit to three points at 61-58.
  • The Roadrunners once again answered with a 9-2 run to get the lead back to 10 points at 70-60.
  • The Tigers turned up the intensity one more time going on a 14-6 spurt to make it a two-point game with 3:38 on the clock.
  • The remainder of the game though belonged to Dalton State as they closed the game outscoring Edward Waters 16-3 to come away with a 15-point win, 92-77.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#21 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (8-1 overall, 1-1 SSAC) with the win, while Edward Waters (Fla.) falls to (4-3 overall) with the loss. Rodley Adjei came two assist shy from a triple-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assist to lead four Roadrunners in double-figures.
 
Kevon Tucker finished with 20 points and four boards, with Randy Bell knocking down three treys and 18 points overall. Jordan Young was the last Bird in double-digits with 11 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks.
 
Chandler Fointno led three Tigers in double-figures with 14 points. Martin Nakell had 12 points, while Anthony Young added 10.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
Both squads shot 50% in the first half with the Roadrunners going 16-for-32 and the Tigers going 14-for-28. The biggest difference was Edward Waters shooting a horrid 0-for-8 from distance, while the Roadrunners went 5-for-13.
 
The battle on the glass went to Dalton State 34-24, with Edward Waters getting the advantage in the paint, 32-30. The Roadrunners went 76.7% from the charity stripe knocking down 33-of-43 shots compared to the Tigers who went 19-for-28 (67.8% ).

A big in-state battle is on tap for the #21 Roadrunners when they make the short trip down I-75 to Marietta to face #18 Life (Ga.) at The Eagles' Nest on Dec. 11. Tip-Off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
