THE SECOND HALF

  • Faulkner tied the game at 42-42 on a Nate Bradley lay in at the 14:51 mark.
  • DS countered with a 6-0 to pull the lead back out at the midway point of the half.
  • An answer for the Eagles led to them retaking the lead, 51-50, with 8:01 remaining after a C.J. Jones trey.
  • The momentum swung back in the Roadrunners favor with six minutes to go when two Rodley Adjei shots from the charity strip gave Dalton State a two-point lead.
  • The game went back-and-forth for the next three minutes with the exchanging of baskets leading to the lead changing hands two more times.
  • With 2:42 on the clock and the Roadrunners down by two, Jordan Young received a beautiful pass from Sean Cranney and put it through the net, drawing a foul. He hit the and-one to put the Birds up 63-62.
  • On the next Eagle possession, Rodley Adjei picked C.J. Williamsons pocket and went in transition finding Kevon Tucker to extend the lead to three.
  • Missed free throws by Faulkner led to another scoring opportunity for the Roadrunners when Cranney shot-faked and dumped a pass to a cutting Aaron Burress for a 67-63 lead with 27 ticks on the clock.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (7-0 overall, 1-0 SSAC) with the win, while Faulkner (Ala.) falls to (5-2, 0-1 SSAC) with the loss. The seven-straight wins to open the season is the best start in school-history by the Roadrunners as a four-year institution. The previous record of six-straight was held by the 2014-15 Roadrunners. That team ended the season with a 32-4 record and the programs first national championship.

Three Birds scored in double-figures led by Kevon Tucker with 16 points and four rebounds. C.J. Perry and Randy Bell each added 10 points, with Bell pulling down five boards, and Perry closing out the game from the line hitting 3-of-4 foul shots.

Garrett Sanderson led a quartet of Eagles in double-digits with 13 points and eight rebounds. His point total would have been more if not for an uncharacteristically bad night from the free throw line as he made only 5-of-13 attempts. Nate Bradley, C.J. Jones, and C.J. Williamson each had 12 points in the loss.
