Late Turnover Dooms Roadrunners SSAC Title Hopes

DALTON, Ga. – The 2019 season came to an end for the Dalton State Men's Soccer team with a 1-0 loss to #5-seed (RV) Martin Methodist (Tenn.) in the quarterfinals of the 2019 SSAC Men's Soccer Tournament on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A turnover in their own zone was costly to the Roadrunners as Nawn Thang stole the ball and dribbled in.
  • An attempted clearing of the ball failed as the ball rolled away from Aaron Friare who came out to make the stop and met a streaking Miguel Tizapa who knocked it to the side.
  • Thang was the first to the ball and gave it enough power to roll into the net in the 73' for the only goal of the day.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) ends the season at (13-5-1 overall, 5-3 SSAC), while Martin Methodist (Tenn.) improves to (13-6 overall) with the win and advances to face #1-seed Mobile (Ala.) in the semifinals of the SSAC Men's Soccer Tournament.

By the numbers, the Roadrunners controlled the entire match with a 9-5 edge in shots and 4-1 in shots on frame. The only shot on goal for the RedHawks resulted in the game winning goal off the turnover deep in the Roadrunners zone.
