Bell's 19 Points Lead Dalton State To Road Win At Reinhardt


DALTON, Ga. – The Roadrunners hit the road Wednesday for the first of five-straight games away from Mashburn Arena and in the process avenged a loss from last season by defeating Reinhardt (Ga.) 79-55 at Brown Athletic Center in Waleska.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Dwayne Wilson gave Reinhardt a quick 6-0 lead under two minutes in with consecutive three-pointers.
  • Dalton State answered with a 13-1 run that was capped with an offensive rebound and put back from Jordan Young at the 13:02 mark.
  • The Roadrunners doubled up the Eagles (22-11) with 8:21 remaining after a Kevon Tucker trey.
  • A 19-9 spurt from DS closed the half and saw them take a 41-20 lead into the half.
  • The Birds extended the lead to 26 at 54-28 after a C.J. Perry shot from behind the arc with 13:08 left to play.
  • The lead for the Roadrunners never got below 20 points the rest of the night as Dalton State got another impressive win to begin the season.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) goes to (2-0 overall) with the win, while Reinhardt (Ga.) falls to (0-1 overall) with the loss. Randy Bell led the Roadrunners with 19 points in 20 minutes of play off the bench on 4-of-9 shooting from the field, 8-of-12 from the charity stripe and three treys.
 
Two other Roadrunners hit double-figures with Kevon Tucker going for 14 points with four shots from distance and four steals and C.J. Perry with 11 points on 50% (4-of-8) from the floor. Jordan Young posted 12 boards and almost hit the double-double again with nine points.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
The battle of the boards went to the Roadrunners 42-32. DS shot 40.4% (23-for-57) from the field and 44.8% (13-for-29) from behind the arc while holding the Eagles to 26.9% (14-for-52) from the floor and 30% (6-fo-20) from three.
 
Dalton State got great production from the bench with 42 points and turned 12 offensive rebounds into 11 second chance points. The Birds continued the defensive pressure from their opening game by forcing 21 turnovers and converting those into 20 points.

Dalton State will get eight days of rest before they face their first test of the season when they travel to Campbellsville, Ky. to take on #21-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) in the first game of the SSAC/Mid-South Challenge. Tip-Off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (CT).
