Men's Basketball Begins Season Tonight At Mashburn Arena

DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State kicks off the 2019-20 season tonight in a tilt with visiting Oakwood (Ala.) out of Huntsville. The Roadrunners had a chance late in the year or making the NAIA Tournament, but three-straight losses to end the year derailed their hopes.
 
Still, Dalton State finished the season at (18-13 overall, 13-9 SSAC) in Alex Ireland's first season on the bench. They welcome back six players from last seasons' squad and added talent in areas of need. That talent will be on display tonight when the Roadrunners spar with the Ambassadors.
 
OAKWOOD (Ala.)
The Ambassadors are young in every sense of the word. Only four upperclassman (2 seniors, 2 juniors) are on the roster, but you can still expect them to be athletic. Only two players are under 6'0" in guards Jalen Nix (5'11") and Nikko Phillip (5'10"). Oakwood has won three USCAA National Championships in the last 10 years with titles in 2016, 2012, and 2008.
 
DALTON STATE
The Roadrunners counter with experience on the roster. Combo guard Randy Bell SSAC assist leader Sean Cranney will welcome ESTU transfer Kevon Tucker, C.J. Perry, and court general Rodley Adjei to the backcourt, while Aaron Burress returns from a late season injury to welcome Jordan Young to the paint.
 
Junior Gerald Williams gives Dalton State versatility with the ability to go inside or play on the wing. Sophomores Igor Stokic and Timothy Green have shown flashes in practice and will be counted on to contribute.
