Roadrunners Fall To Wildcats On The Road

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Dalton State Men's soccer team hoped to bounce back from a loss the day before against Thomas (Ga.). The Roadrunners put up a tough fight against the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales (Fla.), but with a few missed opportunities the boys in blue fell short, 3-2 in their final match in the Faulkner Invitational at Ben Bradley Field in Montgomery, Ala. on Saturday.

THE FIRST HALF
Both teams came out aggressively, with JWU striking first in the 13'. Junior Daniel Valenciano answered back at the 19' with a beautiful shot in the top corner. Both teams continued to go back and forth intensely, each picking up a yellow card. The Roadrunners missed a few opportunities to take the lead, but put up a tough defense to keep the game tied 1-1 going into the half.

THE SECOND HALF
Dalton State wasted no time taking control and went ahead 2-1 off the boot of Senior Jose Villalobos in the 50'. Moments later, JWU tied it at 2-2 in the 62'. Freshman Frank Herrera missed an opportunity to tie at the 67', but JWU didn't miss at the 72' and went up 3-2. The Roadrunners kept pushing but missed a late opportunity to keep the game going.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State drops to 3-3-1 overall, while Johnson & Wales improves to 3-2. Daniel Valenciano led Dalton State with 4 shots taken and 1 goal made. Netminder Samuel Fraire recorded 2 saves.
