(RV) Dalton State Takes Down #8 Georgia Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - (RV) Dalton State scored a huge road win defeating #8 Georgia Gwinnett 2-1 in the finale of the Georgia Gwinnett Tournament at Grizzly Soccer Complex in Lawrenceville on Monday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
The Roadrunners would come out pressing early and it would pay off as Sebastian Guzman would boot a penalty kick home in the 7' to give Dalton State the early 1-0 lead. Georgia Gwinnett looked to take control of the half on the ensuing kickoff, but their shots would go off target. Dalton State would trade out possession with the winded Grizzly's and mount an attack looking to extend the lead. Gwinnett goalkeeper Matija Gligorovic would stonewall the Roadrunners chances and quickly help turn the tide to the Grizzly's. Gwinnett would head down the field with halftime closing in and score the equalizer in the 41' off the boot of Toni Tiente. The score would remain tied at 1-1 heading into the break.

THE SECOND HALF
Dalton State would implore the same pressing strategy they started the match with to begin the second half. They would get close, but several shots would go high, wide, or off the post. The Roadrunner defense would tighten up, limiting chances for Gwinnett. The speedy Roadrunner attack would score the difference maker in the 78' when Daniel Valenciano found Jose Villalobos who put it past Gilgorovic for a 2-1 lead. Gwinnett would mount one last attack, but their final shot would go wide with one minute remaining as Dalton State held on for the victory, 2-1.

THE REST OF THE STORY
