Lady Birds Fall To #16 Mobile, Men's Game Rescheduled

DALTON, Ga. - In a torrential downpour of rain, Dalton State played great team defense but it wasn't enough as #16 Mobile (Ala.) came away with a 4-0 win over the Lady Roadrunners at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex on Thursday evening.

THE FIRST HALF
Mobile came out attacking and scored a quick goal off the boot of Cheyne Bush in the 3' on a stinger from 20 yards out. It would not be long before they got on the board again when Nadia Soderberg beat Sydnee Newton for a quick 2-0 lead.

The Lady Bird defense would tighten up after the quick barrage of Mobile goals and hold the Lady Rams scoreless for the rest of the first half. The remaining time in the first half would be played in the mid-field area as Mobile would go into the break up 2-0.

THE SECOND HALF
The Lady Roadrunners would go out on the attack early. It would lead to a penalty in the box and a penalty kick from Adrianna Arjoon. Looking to cut the lead in half, Arjoon would make solid contact but Mobile goalkeeper Sydney Meyers would be up to the task and stone the shot.

Sarah Chamale would have a shot a few minutes later, but Myers was stone cold in net and not letting anything past her. Mobile would continue on from there and score two more goals to extend the lead to 4-0. The final 15 minutes of the match would be played in a driving rain storm. With 3:20 left, and the ball stopping in puddles on the wet turf, the official would call time and subsequently call the match complete as visiting Mobile came away with the 4-0 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State falls to (6-2-1, 0-1 SSAC) with the loss, while Mobile (Ala.) improves to (6-3, 1-0 SSAC) with the win. The Lady Roadrunners would not have many scoring opportunities, but played strong team defense in holding a powerful Mobile offense to four goals.

UP NEXT
Dalton State will hit the pitch again on Saturday, September 29 when they take on #2 William Carey (Miss.) at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

NOTE OF INTEREST
Because of the strong rain and field conditions, the men's soccer match against Mobile (Ala.) is rescheduled for Monday, October 1. Kickoff will be at 5:00 p.m.
