Lady Roadrunners Fall To William Carey


DALTON, Ga. - Dalton State kept it close, but ran out of steam late as #2 William Carey (Miss.) pulled away down the stretch for an 8-0 win in SSAC women's soccer action at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex in Dalton on Saturday.

THE FIRST HALF
The Lady Roadrunners defense would be put to the test early and often. William Carey would get on the board with two quick goals by Shantel Thompson in the 12' and Kelly Stubbington in the 14'. Dalton State would continually push the ball, but could not find an opportunity to put one on goal. The 2-0 Lady Sader lead would hold true and the teams would enter halftime with William Carey up 2-0.

THE SECOND HALF
The Lady Saders would strike quick coming out of the break, but Sydnee Newton would be up to the task stopping Stubbington and quickly turning the missed shot into an opportunity for the Lady Roadrunners. Sarah Chamale would get a chance but would be turned away by Sabrina Lang.

William Carey would extend the lead to three off the boot of Silvia Leonessi in the 51'. The Lady Sader onslaught would start to wear down the Lady Roadrunner defense. They would add five goals in the last 35 minutes of play to pull away with an 8-0 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State falls to 6-3-1 (0-2 SSAC) with the loss, while #2 William Carey (Miss.) improves to 9-1 (2-0 SSAC) with the win. Caitlyn White would collect a late hat trick for the Lady Saders, while William Carey out shot Dalton State 16-1.

Sydnee Newton would collect seven saves on the day, while Sarah Chamale got the only Dalton State shot on goal.

UP NEXT
Dalton State will head south on Thursday, October 4 when they travel to Temple Terrace, Fla. for a match with new SSAC member Florida College. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
