Lady Birds Dominate Tornadoes in Part One of Double Header


DALTON, Ga. – The Dalton State Women's soccer team struck first and early in the first half and never looked back. The Lady Roadrunner offense scored 9 goals while the stellar defense earned a shutout victory to propel the Lady Birds to 2-0 overall to start the season.

THE FIRST HALF
The Lady Roadrunners came out aggressively with 7 shots taken in the first 15 minutes. Junior Maria Vasquez scored the first goal of the game at the 22' followed shortly by a goal from Junior Adriana Romero at the 30'. Junior Sarah Chamale added a pair of goals to put the Roadrunners up 4-0. The defense was phenomenal, allowing 0 shots for the Tornadoes to keep them scoreless going into the half.

THE SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners continued their aggressive shooting into the second half with Adriana Romero scoring quickly at the 39' off an assist from senior Kaela Ebanks. Romero added another goal at the 58' to strengthen the lead to 6-0, but Junior Adrianna Arjoon added an exclamation point at the 81', scoring two goals within a minute to balloon the lead to 8-0. Junior Rocio Carrizales capped the game off with a goal at the 89' off an assist by freshman Caylee Carpenter. The defense continued to shine and kept the Tornadoes from taking a single shot.

THE REST OF THE STORY
The Roadrunners out shot the Tornadoes 20-0 in the first half and 47-0 overall. The Lady Birds continued their dominance over Talladega from last season when they swept the Tornadoes in 2 games and outscored them 19-0.

UP NEXT
The Dalton State women's soccer team will host AAC member St. Andrews (N.C.) on Sunday, September 2, at Lakeshore Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
