#15 Roadrunners Get Back On Track With Road Win At Mobile


MOBILE, Ala. - #15 Dalton State had another player pick his team up when they needed him most as Randy Bell scorched Mobile (Ala.) for 32 points in a 80-77 win for the Roadrunners at H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium in Mobile, Ala. on Saturday night.

THE FIRST HALF
It would be a slow start for the Roadrunners as Mobile quickly jumped out to an 11-2 lead three minutes. After the teams traded buckets, a two-pointer from Aaron Burress would cut the lead to six at 15-9 with 12:19 to go in the half. Mobile would answer with a 9-2 run over the next four minutes of play to stretch the lead out to 15 points at 26-11.

Seven straight points from Randy Bell and Timothy Green would cut the Ram lead back to eight, but Mobile would respond with seven straight points of their own to draw the lead back out to 15 points. The lead would stabilize for Mobile, but with 2:06 left the Roadrunners would start a run and close the half outscoring the Rams 6-0 to cut the halftime deficit to 9 at 40-31.

THE SECOND HALF
Two D'Anfernee Pugh and one Randy Bell basket would cut the Mobile lead to six two minutes into the second period of play. The Roadrunners would continue to chip away from there. Five straight points from Bell would cut the lead down to four with 13:26 to go. Mobile would get the extend the lead back out to seven at 57-50 after a Tony-Toni Wright bucket but a Sean Cranney trey and two free throws from Green on back-to-back possessions would cut the lead to two at 57-55.

The Rams would take advantage of free throws and draw the lead back to five, but another Cranney three and a bucket from Pugh would tie the game at 62-62 for the first time with 8:09 left to play. The final six plus minutes would belong to Bell. He would go on a torrid stretch and finish with 14 of the teams final 15 points to close out the 80-77 victory and the Roadrunners first conference win of the season.

THE REST OF THE STORY
#15 Dalton State improves to (4-4 overall, 1-1 SSAC) with the win, while Mobile (Ala.) drops to (3-2 overall, 1-1 SSAC) with the loss. Junior Randy Bell was the star of the night for the Roadrunners pouring in 32 points and leading his team to the W down the stretch. D'Anfernee Pugh played tremendously scoring 17 points and adding four rebounds and three assists. The bright spot was freshman Timothy Green. With big man Elijah Staley in foul trouble, Green would step up with 15 points and add four boards.

Darius Curry lead Mobile in scoring with 16 points, while Tony-Toni Wright added 15. Each would have six rebounds as well. Maurice Anderson and Trent Small would add 14 and 13 points respectively as the Rams had four players score in double-figures.

The Roadrunners were out-rebounded by the Rams 26-24 and committed 26 turnovers compared to 18 for Mobile but still managed to find a way to get the victory. Offensive efficiency was the major difference in the ball game with Dalton State going 16-of-25 (64%) in the second half and 54.2% for the game compared to the Rams who shot 38.9% for the game.

The #15 Roadrunners will get a week off during finals and will be back in action on December 13 when they travel to McKenzie, Tenn. for a matchup with Bethel (Tenn.). Tip-Off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (CT).
