Bryan Takes Down Dalton State


ATHENS, Tenn. - It would be a tough afternoon for the Roadrunners as Bryan (Tenn.) held Dalton State scoreless and found the back of the net six times in a 6-0 win at BC Soccer Field in Athens, Tenn. on Saturday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
Bryan would come out on the attack early and it would pay off in the 5' when Charlie Clarke out the ball past Samuel Fraire for a 1-0 Lion lead. The Lions would extend the lead to 2-0 when Jonathan Ricketts netted a goal in the 33'. Right before the half, Dalton State would foul in the box and setup a penalty kick from Marcelo Montiero. His shot would go high as the squads entered the half with Bryan leading 2-0.

THE SECOND HALF
Jonathan Ricketts would open the second period of play with his second goal of the day in the 48' to extend the Lion lead to 3-0. Dalton State would break down the Lion defense and mount an attack, but two shots would miss their mark.

The score would stand at 3-0 until the 63' when Jason Ward would net a goal and increase the lead to 4-0. Shortly after, Dalton State would have another crack at a goal but a sequence of corner kicks would be stopped by Alex Horton. Charlie Clarke and Felipe Teruel would collect goals in the 70' on a quick back-to-back sequence and extend the lead to 6-0. The Roadrunners would try to gain some momentum at the end, but could not get it going as Bryan held on for the 6-0 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State drops to (4-7-1 overall, 0-3 SSAC) with the loss, while Bryan (Tenn.) improves to 6-4-2 overall, 3-2-1 AAC) with the win. The Lions were more physical throughout the match and out shot the Roadrunners 23-9 overall, including 9-0 in the first half.

UP NEXT
The Roadrunners will be back in the friendly confines of Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex on Saturday, October 13 when they take on Faulkner (Ala.) in SSAC action. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and will immediately follow the women's soccer match at 1:30 p.m.
