#15 Roadrunners Get Back On Track With Blowout Win Over Selma (Ala.)


DALTON, Ga. - #15 Dalton State got back to their winning ways with an 85-51 win over Selma (Ala.) in the final game of the Chick-fil-A Roadrunner Classic at Mashburn Arena on Saturday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
It would be a slow start from both squads with one combined basket in the first five minutes of play. Play would pick up and a Yurmon Barnes three-pointer with 12:28 remaining would give Selma a 9-7 lead. A three from Ty Pendley would kick start a 14-4 Dalton State run that would be capped by a Sean Cranney three to give the Roadrunners a 25-13 lead with 7:17 left to play.

Dalton State would grow the lead to 15 at 35-20 with 2:13 left to play after another Pendley three-pointer. A runner in the lane from Kingston Frazier would put Dalton State up by 14 at 37-23 heading into halftime.

THE SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners would turn up the intensity to begin the second half and extend the lead to 22 after an Elijah Staley bucket with 16:13 remaining in the contest. Dalton State would keep their foot on the gas pedal and gradually widen the gap to Selma. The lead would grow to as much as 36 after two Timothy Green free throws with 1:55 left. 

Two late Keyshawn Baker free throws would cut the lead to 34, but Dalton State would take the last possession and dribble out the clock to get their first victory of the young season, 85-51.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to (1-1 overall), while Selma (Ala.) drops to (0-2 overall). Ty Pendley led Dalton State with 18 points, going 6-8 from long range. He would add three assist to the stat line. Sean Chislom added 13 points and six rebounds, while Elijah Staley ended the game with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Sean Cranney had his first double-double in a Roadrunner uniform with 11 points and 11 assists.

Keyshawn Baker led Selma with 20 points and added six rebounds. Yurmon Barnes was the other Bulldog in double-figures with 13 points.

UP NEXT
The Roadrunners will get just under two weeks off before they host the SSAC/Mid-South Challenge on November 9 & 10 at Mashburn Arena. The Roadrunners will welcome fellow Southern States Athletic Conference member Faulkner (Ala.) along with #8 Pikeville (Ky.) and #16 Cumberlands (Ky.) from the Mid-South Conference. Action will kickoff on November 9 with Faulkner taking on Cumberlands at 5:00 p.m. Dalton State will face Pikeville at approximately 7:00 p.m.
