Early Goal Stings Roadrunner In 1-0 Loss

DALTON, Ga. – The Dalton State Men's Soccer team missed a last-minute opportunity to push their match against the Mobile Rams into overtime. Mobile scored early and while the Roadrunners defense kept the lead from widening, the Boys in Blue missed a few key opportunities to tie the game and lost to the Rams 1-0 at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex on Monday.

FIRST HALF
Mobile came right out of the gate with a shot at the 1' that was saved by netminder Samuel Fraire. However, Mobile scored on their next chance at the 8' to put the Rams up 1-0. Both teams went back and forth for the next 20 minutes, keeping much of the action in the center of the pitch. The Roadrunners got in position to even the score when senior Tyler Hudson attempted a back-to-back pair of corner kicks, but Dalton State could not get the goal. Juniors Duvaughn Clarke and Daniel Valenciano fired shots late in the half, but Clarke's attempt was saved by the Mobile goalkeeper while Valenciano's was blocked by Mobile midfielder Yazid Omri. As the half came to a close, sophomore Kevin Villatoro took a close shot but could not find the net and Dalton State entered halftime down 1-0 to the Rams.

SECOND HALF
Mobile took the first shot but missed on wide kick. Daniel Valenciano and Kevin Villatoro got in position to score but Mobile goalkeeper Guilherme Altoe saved both attempts. Mobile got a few opportunities to widen the lead but missed two close shots and junior Taeylor Fisch blocked another attempt. The Roadrunners kept Mobile from scoring another goal, but senior Jose Villalobos missed a last-minute chance to tie the game and send it into overtime. In the end, Mobile would leave Dalton, Ga. with a 1-0 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Mobile out shot Dalton State 10-7. Daniel Valenciano and Kevin Villatoro tied for shot leader with 2 shots each. Goalkeeper Samuel Fraire recorded two saves. With the loss, the Roadrunners are now 4-5-1 overall (0-2 SSAC), while Mobile improves to 9-1 overall (2-0 SSAC) with the win.
