#13 Roadrunners Comeback Comes Up Just Short Against Coastal Georgia


BRUNSWICK, Ga. - #13-ranked Dalton State comes up short in their rematch against Coastal Georgia (Ga.) with the final score of 76-74 on Tuesday at Howard Coffin Gym in Brunswick, Ga.

THE FIRST HALF
Coastal jumped out aggressively on the Roadrunners with a 12-5 run, but the Dalton State would fight back and make it 16-15, with a made 3-pointer by Isaiah Box. Coastal would again take control of the game and go a 10-2 run, making the score 30-20 with 3 minutes to go in the half. With Roadrunners shooting 24% from the floor, they would fall behind, 45-29, to end the half.

THE SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners would fall to a quick 23 point deficit, but would fight back and go on their own 10-0 run to make the score 50-43. Dalton State would finally cut the lead to 67-62, with five minutes to go, off the backs of their twin towers Carnilious Simmons and Sean Chislom.

Reed Dungan would hit a big shot to bring the Roadrunners within a two point deficit, but Coastal would ice the game at the line and win 76-74.

THE REST OF THE STORY
#13 Dalton State drops to (10-4 overall, 3-1 SSAC), while Coastal Georgia improves to (10-5 overall, 1-1 TSC) with the win. Carnilious Simmons was the leading scorer for the Roadrunners with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 4 steals in tonight's loss. Sean Chisolm and Reed Dungan combined for 33 points and 13 rebounds.

Haylen Washington led the Mariners with 27 points, while Brandon Martin followed up with 14 points of his own.
 
UP NEXT
The #13- ranked Roadrunners will play #12 Faulkner University at home in Mashburn Arena on Saturday January 6. Tip-Off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
